What Youll Get to DoThe Director of Cargo is accountable for the operational performance of the Cargo Department, including service reliability, workforce leadership, and compliance across all locations. The Director maintains effective relationships with employees and union representatives and ensures a high-performing operating environment. Travel is required to support oversight of operations and key stakeholders. Operations:Develop and execute operational plans to support day-to-day Cargo operations and overall network performanceEnsuring cargo management tracking system is used correctly by all staff and contractors Accountable for operational performance across all out bases, including service levels, compliance, and inventory accuracyLiaise with cargo managers and COC to manage freighter utilization, daily inventory, and operational prioritiesResponsible for working with the Cargo Managers on employee/labour relations issuesAssist cargo managers with progressive disciplineOversee logistics management, including the efficient and effective storage and delivery of goods to meet customer requirementsEnsure operation meets contractual service levels and deadlinesEstablishes and maintains professional relationships with customers, employees, and union representatives, to support operational performance and a positive working environmentEnsure compliance with regulatory authorities as well as internal policies and proceduresResponsible for approving time in HRIS system for all cargo managers and assist managers as requiredProvide operational coverage support for station Cargo Managers and Cargo Operation Control as neededWork with Cargo System Administrator to ensure all rates, increases, changes are made in the cargo management systemSupport the certation, negotiation, and implementation of cargo contracts as well as extension when required.Manage SLA program within Calm Air Cargo, including performance monitoring and corrective actionsWork closely with Manager of Training to implement/make changes to Standard Operating procedures, and support the ongoing review, development, and continuous improvement of SOPsOversee Cargo Ground Handling Contractors to ensure service delivery meets operational, safety, and contractual standardsOther duties as assignedFinancial:Assist VP of Cargo, as required to monitor and analyze monthly expenditures to assigned GL accounts and explain variances from budget Monitor departmental manpower to ensure within budget and seek approval for replacement/increase as requiredAdhere to all financial internal controlsIdentify and implement cost reduction initiatives within the departmentReview and approve vendor invoices and employee reimbursements, ensuring accuracy, proper authorization, and alignment with contractual terms and agreed ratesAssist the VP of Cargo with annual departmental budgetSafety:Actively support the safety management system by following SMS processes and encouraging a safety reporting culture within the departmentPromote occupational health and safety within the department, and participate in the development and monitoring of safety trainingProactively communicate hazards and SMS initiatives with your departmentMANAGERS, SUPERVISORS AND LEADS – have been delegated the authority and are responsible to the Department Head to actively identify hazards and deficiencies and report through the SMS (Safety Management System) Program reporting system. Communicate with all personnel within their respective department and other departments as required to maintain effective day to day activities. Ensure regulatory and company standards are maintained. Assist in the development and maintenance of company processes and procedures. (Quality Assurance activities)Carry out their duties safely within regulatory and company standards, policies, processes, and procedures as trained. Use safety equipment (tools, Proper Protective Equipment etc.) as provided. Actively identify and report hazards and deficiencies (when in doubt report). Assist in development of company processes and procedures as required.Leadership:Build and develop the Cargo team by providing direction, support, training, and motivation to carry out assigned cargo strategiesLead change management initiatives through effective communication, engagement, and follow-throughLead and support employees through mentorship and oversight of professional developmentCreate and maintain a positive company culture that supports employee participation.Conduct annual performance reviews and manage ongoing employee performanceSupport employment equity initiatives; engaging with all employees to promote employment equity and encouraging employees to undertake the self-declaration survey updating as necessaryAll levels of the organization share responsibility for human rights within the organization, overseeing and promoting continuous improvement on human rights and employment equity initiativesSkills & Experience We Value Post-secondary education in business, transportation, or logisticsPost-secondary education in business, transportation, or logistics 5 years of experience in a senior leadership role within transportation, warehousing, logistics requiredAbility to work in a multi-cultural environment with a thorough understanding of different cultures, traditions, practices, and beliefs as it affects doing successful business in the NorthIntermediate user of Power Bi and MS Excel Excellent communication skills, ability to communicate with all levels of employees and customersExcellent organizational skillsExcellent negotiation skillsExperience implementing an inventory tracking system Previous experience managing in a unionized environment requiredNorthern experience considered an assetFrequent travel requiredMust be able to obtain and maintain all required security clearancesFrequent travel required Inuktitut language considered an assetPreference will be given to Inuit Land Claims Beneficiaries
