What YOU will do:
Responsible for the composite maintenance and repair of Commercial Aircraft types.
In This Role, You Will:
- Remove, replace, repair, build or duplicate various aircraft components within a shop environment requiring composite repair or replacement on fiberglass, honeycomb and metal bonding with the use of special tooling and equipment.
- Mix various resins to S.R.M. specifications.
- Cut and mold various fiberglass clothes and apply based on S.R.M. specifications.
- Layout and fabricate all sheetmetal fillers and doublers for composite purposes with basic sheetmetal skills using various hand tools and or Sheetmetal Fab Shop equipment.
- Treat and prepare sheetmetal (alodine and prime) for bonding purposes.
- Perform the duties of and provide necessary training for lower skill levels.
- Maintain and store various tools and supplies in a serviceable condition.
- Adhere to safe maintenance practices and keep a clean work area.
- Maintain and supply personal records of work performed on OJT forms for the Training Department.
- Successfully complete any courses deemed necessary by the training department.
- Perform any work that may be assigned by his or her supervisor.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS: Proficient working knowledge of the following skills:
- Basic operating knowledge of shop equipment to include drill presses, shears, brakes, band saws, scales, etc.
- Basic operating knowledge of hand tools to include drill motors, die grinders, rivet guns, countersinks, microstops, micrometers, etc.
- Demonstrates knowledge & proper use of safety equipment.
- Basic knowledge of paperwork and tagging procedures.
- Basic knowledge of job clocking procedures.
- Basic knowledge of ATA codes and aircraft components.
- Understand and maintain “Lay up Room” work area requirements.
- Consistently practices FOD control & EWIS awareness.
- Basic understanding of aircraft schedule & assigned job budget.
- Ability to research applicable manual references to identify limits / repairs.
- Ability to navigate IPC to locate applicable parts and identify effectivity.
- Ability to identify repair materials, familiarity with storage requirements & shelf life.
- Familiarity with resin mixing, pot life and cure times with ability to calculate proper mix ratios.
- Basic theory & usage of composite materials.
- Basic repairs to include damage removal, fiberglass wet lay-up procedures, cold bond metal repairs.
- Basic knowledge of vacuum bagging & theory.
- Basic knowledge of moisture removal for composite components.
SUPERVISION: Under general direction. Normally performs duties after receiving general instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results. Some opportunity for discretion when making selections among as few, easily identifiable choices. Assignment is usually reviewed upon completion.
INTERPERSONAL RELATIONS: A moderate level of interpersonal skills is required to maintain an effective relationship with co-workers and supervision.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT: Occasionally requires easy mobility around various sections of aircraft and the dexterity to fabricate/repair components with cosmetic appeal in a timely manner. Requires the ability to wear a respirator without restrictions due to exposure to various fumes. Must be able to pass physical exam, including pulmonary function test. Requires mental skills and quickness with the ability to cope with stress and intense effort or exertion usually caused by long working hours. Must have the capacity to gain knowledge by hearing for one’s own safety due to the dangers involved in the operations of shop equipment. Working environment requires standing 90 of the workday on hard surfaces. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and report to work regularly.
What YOU need:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Certificate of completion of a (40) hour Composite Training Course or equivalent thorough a combination of experience and documented composites training.
- A&P License desired
- Minimum of (18) months experience in composite repairs and/or maintenance of commercial aircraft.
