The Boeing Company is seeking a motivated collaborative Senior Composites Engineer to join our Composite Materials Fabrication Site in Mesa, Arizona.
Our Materials and Processes Technologies (M&PT) Department of Boeing Mesa, Arizona is seeking a high-performing experienced Materials and Processes (M&P) Engineer to join our Composites team. The Composites M&P Engineer will work independently as well as in teams and will apply knowledge of materials and processes in various engineering and manufacturing disciplines. M&P skill areas include composite layup and assembly, composite testing, prepregs, adhesives, solvents, finishes, primers, polymer chemistry, elastomers and failure analysis, among others. This engineer will work in the office, laboratory and factory to support the evaluations noted above. This engineer will be coordinating with other skill areas as needed. Other skill areas within the M&P team are metals, chemical processing, electronics, equipment engineering and nondestructive evaluations and skill areas outside the M&PT team include Design, Manufacturing engineering, Quality, Facilities, Supplier Management, and Operations. In this role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the efficient production of our world-class aerospace products, including advanced platforms for our Air Proprietary programs.

Position Responsibilities:
Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop material & processing specifications and fabrication and assembly processes
Performs root cause analysis of material and process failures
Provides effective solutions to development and production composite issues
Generates test plans & reports
Defines requirements and approves tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes used in the engineering design, manufacture and/or maintenance of products
Produces specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes
Maintains compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations
Promotes standardization across business activities
Evaluates emerging technologies for potential application to business needs
Develops and qualifies new tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes to meet requirements
Integrates new technologies as appropriate
Manages test and audit programs to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements
Travel to subcontractor locations to review processes and assess compliance with requirements
Conducts analysis to characterize performance or determine reasons for failure of tools, materials, parts or processes
Disseminates results and status to project stakeholders
Interfaces with government, external and internal customers
Implements corrective and preventive actions
Able to positively interact with a wide range of personnel in design, fabrication, and testing of prototypes and aircraft parts and systems, including suppliers
Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements
Incorporates environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas
This position is expected to be 100 onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance Post Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science. And a Bachelor’s degree and 9+ years’ experience or Master’s and 7+ years (Level 4) OR a Bachelor’s degree and 14+ years’ experience or Master’s and 12+ years (Level 5)
5+ years’ experience working in composite manufacturing
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
5+ years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
10+ years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
5+ years of experience working with composites and elastomers and associated processing techniques
Experience leading technical teams
Experience working in an engineering or scientific lab and associated polymer chemistry analytical techniques
Experience with materials (such as epoxy, cyanate ester, bismaleimide, urethane, polyimide, reinforcements, etc) and processes.
Experience with composite and elastomer failure modes (structural and nonstructural) and analysis for materials, processes and parts.
Experienced reading drawings and using Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, etc.)

Summary pay range (Level 4): $116,450 - $157,550
Summary pay range (Level 5): $140,250- $189,750
